One of the busiest and most colorful booths at the Saturday market belongs to WESTERN SUN FLORAL. Kiyoko Sakaue and her husband, Ryoji own and manage a business that was started by his parents in 1973. They have 10 acres of green houses in Watsonville and a second location in Castroville.
Originally, Western Sun Floral specialized in carnations and later roses. Now, on a typical Saturday, their booth will be filled with 30 to 40 different varieties of cut flowers...although roses, lilies and daisies remain the most popular. They sell at Farmers Markets exclusively. The Grand Lake Market being one of eight and the only one in the immediate bay area. Kiyuko says they chose this particular market because the customers have "a good eye for flowers".
