As I did last year, I'm participating in the Breast Cancer Fund's Bike Against the Odds, which will be held Saturday, August 23, 2008. The ride is a 100-plus mile suffer-fest, with more than 10,000 feet of climbing. I don't see it as suffering though. (OK, maybe during, but not after.) Instead, I see it as an important way for me to help in the fight to eradicate breast cancer, by finding the root environmental causes of the disease. This year, I ride with extra motivation, as a close friend of my sister-in-law has, and is being treated for this disease. Knowing what she's going through physically and emotionally from the disease makes me realize how trivial my six hours of suffering on the bike really is.
