EGB Farms
A farmer for over twenty years, Eddie Chavez is one of the very first vendors to sign up for the Grand Lake Market and over the intervening years has built a loyal following. Operating as EGB FARMS, he and a partner own and lease five hundred acres in Ripon. About a third of that acreage is devoted exclusively to crops destined for Farmers Markets. Eddie is frequently accompanied by his son, Eddie Jr. while his wife, Maria, sets up a booth at the Farmers Market in Hayward. Early in the season, they specialize in fresh fruit: cherries, twenty-two varieties of peaches and eighteen varieties of nectarines. Always interested in new species, Bruno Brothers is currently growing a newly propagated cross between an apricot, peach and nectarine. During the winter season, their focus shifts to walnuts, Fuji apples and a wide assortment of flavored and candied almonds.
